ES's Floral Sampler by With My Needle
All we know about this sampler are the stitcher’s initials, ES. The sampler appears to be English and, taking clues from the motifs, the linen, and the threads, was stitched in the mid 19th century, most likely around 1840.
The model was stitched on 36-count Light Sand linen from Zweigart, Inc. making the stitched area 6-1/4 by 9 inches. The stitched area on the original sampler is approximately 5-5/8 by 8-1/8 inches. If you want your sampler to be the same size as the original, we suggest that you use 40-count linen. The model was stitched using silk threads from Needlepoint. Inc. DMC substitutions are provided for the silk threads.
