"I was so pleased to find this set of three samplers all worked by the same girl, Elizabeth Ackroyd, in the mid 1800s, and they were still together after some 170 years and in good shape!!
 All three designs are included in the same chart, Many Sheep, The Serpent Beguiled Me, and The Savior Died Upon the Cross. 
I first thought that the animals were horses with saddles. Then I learned that farmers still to this day will mark the sheep that are pregnant. I think that Elizabeth was showing that this was a prosperous farm with many sheep."
